Accuracy and the impact of using a Continuous Glucose Monitor
isCGM intermittent scanned Continuous Glucose Monitoring – or Flash Glucose Monitoring (FGM) measures interstitial fluid glucose using a sensing device intermittently.²
rtCGM real-time Continuous Glucose Monitoring – measures interstitial fluid glucose using a sensing device continuously with data in real-time.²

Having an accurate blood glucose meter can help you make more informed decisions when using a Continuous Glucose Monitor (rtCGM / isCGM) when:*

Rapidly changing blood glucose levels3
BGM is recommended for:
- Meal times (rapidly increasing glucose)
- Insulin injection (rapidly decreasing glucose)
- Exercise (rapidly decreasing glucose)

Hypoglycemia3
BGM is recommended if symptomatic hypoglycemia and/or impending hypoglycemia is displayed.

Bolus insulin calculations3,4
BGM is required for use of insulin bolus calculator and Interstitial Glucose (IG) values should not be used.

Driving5
BGM is recommended for patients who take insulin and/or an insulin secretagogue and intend to drive. Blood glucose must be >5.0 mmol/L to drive.

Symptom discordance3
BGM is recommended if scanned CGM results do not match with user symptoms.

Sensors falling off or back-up3
Use BGM for patients who experience CGM sensors falling off before the 14-day intended use, or for patients who experience skin reactions.

No value or trend arrow4
When the CGM reading does not include a current glucose number or glucose trend arrow, use your BGM.

If taking Vitamin C or Aspirin ®,3
- Taking ascorbic acid (vitamin C) while wearing the sensor for CGM may falsely RAISE CGM readings.
- Taking salicylic acid (used in some pain relievers such as Aspirin and some skin care products) may slightly LOWER CGM readings.
- The level of inaccuracy depends on the amount of the interfering substance active in the body.
