My teen (14) is very active and wants to get involved in competitive sports. I’m worried about hypoglycemia. He doesn’t seem bothered by the risks, but I’m afraid something could happen on the sports field. Are there any other parents of active kids here? (He’s type 1) Concerned parent

Yes, I’m a hockey mom! My 17 year old has been playing for years. I was like you at first but it’s worked fine. I’m in close contact with the coach, who knows my daughter’s needs. Make sure you consult with your son’s doctor or nurse first. They’ll give you the info on insulin adjustments/checking bloods/extract snacks, etc. And ofcouse make sure your son always has fast-acting carbs on hand, just in case. The best advice I got thought…RELAX!! hockey mom
